Golden Kaan 2006 Western Cape Pinotage ($10.00)
Very dark purple with a garnet edge. Plums, berries and subtle spice, an attractive fresh-fruit aroma. Sour plums on the palate, high acidity makes it a winner with red meat at the dinner table but a bit tart for sipping as an aperitif. Its 14% alcohol is sturdy but does not manifest as undesirable harshness or heat. Simple but clean and well-made, Pinotage in the modern style. The flesh-color plastic plug, my least preferred form of synthetic, signals against longer-germ cellaring. US Importer: Rocke USA, Sonoma, Calif. (Apr 30, 2009)

FOOD MATCH: A fine match with a Fiedler Family Farms Indiana natural ribeye steak, pepper-crusted and pan-seared.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
