Pedroncelli 2005 Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County "Mother Clone" Zinfandel ($17.00)
Clear, very dark garnet, with reddish-violet glints against the light. Excellent Zinfandel aromas, blackberry and black raspberry, luscious and ripe but stops short of overly "jammy." Flavors follow the nose, juicy bramble fruit nicely shaped by crisp acidity and the body and warmth that attend 14.9% alcohol, on the potent side but well handled and balanced, carries all that alcohol well. US Importer: N/A (Jul 21, 2008)

FOOD MATCH: Grilled meat will handle just about any good Zin, but we went in a Mediterranean direction, pairing it with a flavorful summer garden saute of ground lamb and fresh Italian eggplant, onions and green peppers and fresh Roma tomatoes over cavatappi pasta with a good sprinkle of Pecorino Romano cheese.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
