Vieux Chateau Haut Béard 2000 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru ($20.99)
This is an inky blackish-purple wine with a reddish-violet edge. Spicy cherry-compote aromas add an herbal back note reminiscent of oregano or classic Bordeaux "lead pencil." Flavors are consistent with the nose, black cherries, lean and tart; good fruit and herbs on a structure of fresh-fruit acidity and smooth tannins. An earthy but clean whiff of leather appears with time in the glass. US Importer: Ex-Cellars Wine Agencies Inc., Solvang, Calif. (Apr 17, 2006)

FOOD MATCH: A fine match with lamb chops pan-roasted with fresh rosemary and a hint of fresh ginger.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
