Housley's Century Oak Winery 2001 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel ($13.00)
This clear, dark reddish-purple wine breathes ripe mixed berries, shaped by a back note of aromatic oak and an odd but not unpleasant whiff of butter. It's all fruit on the palate, though, jammy, ripe and sweet, blackberries and raspberries in a classic, exuberant Zin, not overly alcoholic by Zinfandel standards (13.4%), with plenty of fresh-fruit acidity to hold it together. US Importer: (Jan 12, 2004)

FOOD MATCH: Zin is a natural match with grilled meats, although this one worked just as well with a robust Italian dish of pork chops braised in red wine with fennel seed.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the WineLoversPage.com name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
