Salmon Run 2002 New York Johannisberg Riesling ($12.99)
This pale straw-color wine offers appetizing aromas of ripe cooking apples and spice; swirling brings out an appealing mineral note. Fresh, appley fruit flavors are off-dry but crisply acidic, a well-balanced table wine with just a hint of peach-pit bitterness in a long finish. The winery Website implies that it's a Finger Lakes wine, but the "New York" appellation on the label hints at more widespread grape sources. US Importer: (Dec 17, 2003)

FOOD MATCH: Chosen specifically as a partner for potato pancakes with applesauce, it's just about a perfect match.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
