Sacred Hill 2002 Whitecliff Estate Hawke's Bay Sauvignon Blanc ($11.39)
This is a clear, straw-colored wine with an appetizing aroma that mingles limey-citrus and lush gooseberry aromas. Full and ripe, almost oily in texture, its white-fruit flavors are consistent with the aroma, well-balanced by fresh-fruit acidity. Quite different in style from the forward "green chile" aromas and flavors that make Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs distinctive, it's not as "outrageous" as some of the big names from Marlborough, but it's arguably more elegant and refined, making it an easier match with food. US Importer: Halby Marketing Inc., Sonoma, Calif. (Oct 9, 2003)

FOOD MATCH: A winner with seafood, good with poultry or pork, it served well with a light vegetarian dinner of rice tossed with finely chopped spinach, basil and mint with light Indian spices.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
