Brookland Valley 2000 "Verse 1" Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot ($16.99)
This inky dark reddish-purple wine from Western Australia is almost black at the center. A whiff of pumpkin-pie spice adds interesting complexity to ripe blackberry and blueberry aromas. On the palate it's juicy and ripe, fresh mixed-berry fruit and a touch of oak, nicely shaped by lemon-squirt acidity. The parts come together in a balanced, appetizing wine that's fine with food. US Importer: International Cellars, Chantilly, Va. (Sep 20, 1002)

FOOD MATCH: Although beef might be the logical companion, it went quite will with chicken, in the form of a light autumn chicken stew.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
