Sausal Family 2000 Alexander Valley Old Vine Zinfandel ($14.00)
This dark-garnet wine offers classic Zinfandel aromas, fresh and true blackberries with just a whiff of a pleasant "leafy" character that adds complexity and interest. A blast of berry fruit, jammy and ripe, is structured with plenty of acidity, a full and balanced flavor with enough fruit to keep substantial (14.1%) alcohol from dominating. Although 2000 wasn't considered a great Zinfandel vintage in Sonoma (and its long, cool autumn may be a factor in the slight "green" quality in the wine's aroma), this one turned out just fine. US Importer: (Jul 4, 2003)

FOOD MATCH: Full and appealing fruit made it a fine match with a smoky char-grilled chicken.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.

Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
