Hedges 2000 Columbia Valley Red Wine ($13.49)
This red wine from Washington State offers a mixed blend of Bordeaux grapes (58% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc) with just a taste of the Rhone (8% Syrah). Very dark garnet in color, it shows black-cherry and vanilla aroma notes with a hint of fresh herbs - tarragon, perhaps. Swirling brings up the fruit and a distinct note of dark chocolate. Flavors follow the nose, medium-bodied black fruit laced up with snappy, lemon-squirt acidity. US Importer: (Mar 14, 2003)
FOOD MATCH: Good with pan-roasted pork chops, but has the stuffing to stand up to more robust meats such as roast lamb or beef.

Wine notes in 'shelf-hanger' format:
We publish Wine Lovers' Page tasting reports in the familiar "shelf-hanger" size and format, to make it easy for wine merchants or collectors to print them out, clip and post them where this wine is displayed. We do ask, however, that the WineLoversPage.com name, logo and URL be left intact, and that these reports be used with the specific wines rated, not different bottlings or vintages.
Our tasting policy:
All my wine-tasting reports are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I accept no free samples from wineries or distributors, purchasing all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores.
