Tasting Note: Fino (dry) Sherry
Following up on yesterday's report about Madeira, here's a Sherry of somewhat similar style. If Sherry makes you think of sticky-sweet dessert wines, you might want to recalibrate your palate with a Fino, a pale, dry style of Sherry that can go surprisingly well with food.
Wisdom & Warter Ltd. non-vintage Fino Pale Dry Sherry ($7.49)
Transparent amber in color, this Sherry offers characteristic nutlike aromas of pecans with a back note of tropical fruit. Its flavor is consistent with the nose, snappy and bone-dry, with intriguing complexity and cleansing acidity that makes it particularly pleasant with food. U.S. importer: Excelsior Wine and Spirits, Farmingdale, N.Y. (May 7, 2001)
FOOD MATCH: Despite its relatively high (17.5%) alcoholic strength, it made a good table match with the earthy flavors of a duck and wild-mushroom risotto.
This and that
