Wine events ... everywhere!

Today let's visit one of the most useful wine-related sites on the Web. Sporting a new look and easy to navigate, Eric Orange's LocalWineEvents.com offers more information for wine lovers than ever.

The concept is simple and straightforward: Organizations planning wine events anywhere in the world can post free public announcements about the event. Wine enthusiasts can easily check events in their home town - or in any other city listed - to find out what's doing in the world of wine.

Online for almost three years, LocalWineEvents.com has grown into a real international resource. Today, for instance, it showed 37 coming events in New York City, 11 on Long Island; 27 events in Los Angeles, 24 in London, 7 in Bordeaux, 8 in Sydney and 4 in Cape Town among its hundreds of current listings, making it an essential resource not only to find out about events at home but also in cities where you're traveling. If you don't have time to check in regularly, you can sign up for E-mail notices about upcoming events in any city of your choice.

You'll also find hundreds of classified advertisements for wine-related businesses in nearly 20 categories ranging from wine auctions and wine clubs, wine jobs, shops, maps, software and much more.

If you're the host of a wine-related event, you'll find it easy (and free) to enter information. There's a nominal fee for posting classified ads.

Orange says more than 11,000 events have been posted on the site since it opened in July 2000, and more than 35,000 wine lovers visit monthly. Traffic is the key to success in a site like this, of course, as the more events posted, the more useful it becomes. So, if you visit the site and like it, you'll want to encourage wine shops, restaurants and wine organizations in your community to drop in and provide information about their events.

This is a significant, substantive Website, indispensible for wine lovers everywhere. I strongly recommend bookmarking

for frequent visits.

All the wine-tasting reports posted here are consumer-oriented. In order to maintain objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest, I purchase all the wines I rate at my own expense in retail stores and accept no samples, gifts or other gratuities from the wine industry.
