WTN: '01 J. J. Christoffel Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett - Wow!

So after all my ranting I really wanted a Christoffel Kabinett. I have been saying that all the 2001s are closed down, but I just had to try this.

Oh my freaking gosh this is fraking fantastic! Peach, strawberry, brown spices and tea on the nose. All that and more on the palate where there's an utterly disarming creamy texture on the finish that makes me want to melt. Holy cow this is delicious. The finish really kicks things higher with a touch of lime that lifts the whole profile of the wine. The acids and fruit are in perfect balance, providing the refreshment value that is appropriate for kabinett, even if the wine is more reminiscent of spätlese in body.

The secondary elements are just starting to devlop. There is a hint of smoke on the nose, and some diesel on the palate that hangs well with the peaches (Peaches and Diesel anyone?). The CO2 spritz is still there, so the wine really needs another couple of years in the cellar, but it is going to be hard to keep my hands off this one.
