This isn't totally new. An article appeared in Nature two years ago that showed the role of resveratrol in stimulating some enzymes (sirtuins) that had previously been implicated in the well-known effect of calorie-restricted diets on longevity. In fact, the researcher who published that Nature article and a former postdoc of his have both formed startup biotech companies looking for ways to create a "fountain of youth" drug. I remember that article and thought of this question. Would people who drink wine for their health stop and take a pill and forgo their wine ?
There are also other beneficial phytochemicals in wine, most notably the isoflavonoids. In addition, alcohol consumption has been linked to decreased incidence of heart disease, so Paul of Tarsus had it right all along
