I`m still hooked on Muscadet!!

Even with all this cold snowy weather, garlic shrimp calls for my favourite white!! This Chereau-Carre offering was previously tasted in warmer times but Muscadet rocks so here goes!

WTN: `04 Muscadet Chateau l`Oiseliniere de la Ramee.

Very good vintage after the so-so `03 . 12% alc, opened an hour. Colour has a tad more depth than the previous bottle opened, a medium straw, no bubbles this time. On the nose, minerally, apple, sea-shells, this one is a classic. Has that "leesy" spritz from the sur-lie process on the palate plus apple and a nice citric bite on the finish. Pear and some zippy acidity here, crisp and fresh. It all hums along, memorable. Anyone seen any `05s yet?

Cost was $18 Cdn.

The Moose rocks! Only a couple '05s tasted. Seemed lovely.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

No longer ITB.

A local shop just received a shipment of 2005 Domaine du Millaud Muscadet. I had never heard of this producer until I sampled a bit of this wine with the "importer" in August. I thought it to be a worthy competitor with Pepiere which is not distributed locally. Hopefully the sample bottle is represenative of the entire lot. Probably not widely distributed, so this post will be of little benefit to most. ~ $10 (US)

Indeed! I've reported a few, including these two tasted in September:

Mark Ollivier's basic Muscadet bottling shows a transparent pale straw color; a few bubbles line the glass. Subtle and delicate aromas focus on pure white fruit and "crushed seashells," a characteristic of fine Muscadet. Mouth-filling, dry and tart, delicate citrus, lemon-lime, ripples over a base of chalky minerality, finishing clean and long. (Sept. 8, 2006)

<b>Clos des Briords 2005 Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie ($12.99)</b>

Made from a single vineyard of 75-year-old Melon vines grown on deep topsoil over granite, this is a brilliant straw color. Intriguing aromas begin with melon and lime, opening up to stones and shells, then complex, earthy nuances of ripe Camembert and wool with time in the glass. Full flavors follow the nose, limey fruit and earthy grace notes, white fruit and chalk in a very long finish. A remarkable wine, and one that will gain from cellar time. (Sept. 8, 2006)

Cheer, cheer. Big fan here. Absolutely the best wine with seafood, all other things being equal. Have enjoyed earlier versions of the ones Robin posted on, but no '05s yet. Haven't seen yours Bob. It must be the importers, but there seems to be a lot of European, particularly French wine that turns up in Canada and not the U.S. and vice versa.

I picked up one as well.

Actually kind of a funny story. Wife and I buy wine from a winery in Tennessee near where her parents live. We were going to get on their year-long waiting list for Muscadine [a popular Southern grape], but have never tried a Muscadine. So I went to a local wine shop and asked for a Muscadine.

The guy thought I said [or meant to say] "Muscadet" and brought me over the that section of the store... I swear his face lit up and you'd think he was describing one of his kids' crowning achievements to me. I didn't have the heart [nor the cajones] to say what I really meant to say, and knowing that many here on WLDG love Muscadets, I figured to give it a shot, so I'm looking forward to it!
I can certainly see that you know your wine. Most of the guests who stay here wouldn't know the difference between Bordeaux and Claret.

Muscadet is fine all year round.

Surely you have a warm micro-climate in your dining room right now?

And if your dining room micro-climate is cool in summer then a Priorat or Shiraz is fine in summer.

I cannot believe I have been through another summer here without opening a musky! Well, have the `04 Chereau-Carre Chasseloire, Cuvee des Ceps Centaires ready to go, all I need is some shrimp and mussells. Stay tuned, oh anyone else in the mood?!

Last evening, I met a Loire B and B guy here in town and he told me there will be very little Muscadet from `08. Lousy weather etc.

A little town nearby has a yearly oysters and ale festival (it happened last weekend) and although I could not attend, whenever I heard an advertisement for it on the radio, I started salivating and thinking of Clos des Briords! Jim

Those reports from Jim Budd are much better than I feared. In the last few days, we have been having a bit of an Indian summer which extend down to SW France.

Bob I got the 2005 Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie, Château l'Oiselinière de la Ramée, (Chéreau-Carré)in my last order from the Wine Society here in the UK and the first bottle was delicious.

Not quite as delicious as the 2005 Eric Morgat, Savennières, L'Enclos, 2005 bought in the same order but was much less expensive at £8.25 [the 06 is also available at £7.95]. The Savennières was £13.95 but has just been increased to £16.50 due to the shrinkage of the £ versus the Euro.

Guy Brossard's Domaine de L'Ecu and Pierre Luneau-Papin's wines are my other favourite Muscadets but the l'Oiselinière is another superb QPR and IMO right up there.

Yes indeed and some time ago but AFAIK he [Bossard] has had no takers or at least I have seen no reports. However you can still buy his wines although it will become a diminishing feast if he simply stops producing which is hopefully unlikely.
