Father's Day Week End Wines

by Richard Fadeley OLD » Sun Jun 15, 2014 10:10 pm

I took the opportunity this long US Open/Father's Day Week-End to enjoy some old and some new wines. Friday night we had a grilled pork tenderloin with grilled potatoes, served with a '10 Chateau Macard (Bordeaux Superieur) and the Alain Paret '10 St.-Joseph "Les Larmes du Pere. Both were solid wines showing classic Bdx earthiness and barely 13.5% ABV, while the St.-Joseph was a delicious syrah. Both were perfect with the pork. Saturday night was golf. With appetizers, Cht. Thieuley '12 Rose', (still drinking well but I would look for the current vintage if possible) and a home-made pizza with the Il Tarocco '11 Chianti Clasico (sourced from Trader Joe's, $10). This was a real surprise. After a 2 hours decant it was a lovely and warming Chianti, deep dark and delicious. Dessert was tiramisu with a Bouvet Rose' from the Loire valley. This is a very serviceable sparkler from the Loire that we have used on several occasions in the past year. At $13 it is a deal. Tonight we had shrimp burgers with corn-on-the-cob and baked beans. For starters we had boiled shrimp with Chateau de Maligny '12 Petit Chablis. At $16 this is a nice way to go with Chablis. Seems to have all the required components without the $$. Also opened Champagne Taittinger with the shrimp burgers and along with the La Cabriole '13 Cabernet de Saumur Rose' ($10). Just an all around good rose' and perfect with the shrimp burgers.
All wines were stand-outs and performed as expected. Nice when that happens.
All in all, a wonderful weekend.

for Father's Day, 2006 Loring PN Brousseau Vyd, with rack of lamb, roasted red potatoes and green beans..drinking quite well and in no danger of going OTH, bottle sealed with screw cap and no indication of premature aging, drinks like a young wine..No rush if you still have any
