WTN: '04 MSR Spatlese and '99 Lalande de Pomerol

Betsy was away for one evening, I had leftovers and some 2004 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese (Mosel- Saar-Ruwer). Lime fruit with a little apple, good acidity, but broad with a smooth texture. Acidity jumps to forefront, keeping it from being too sweet. Good balance and depth. Very nice, B+

Monday I marinated some lamb chops in an onion/herb mixture, Betsy made a beets and greens salad and potatoes when she got home. I opened the 1999 Château La Fleur de Boüard (Lalande de Pomerol). Big forward ripe black fruit, oak vanilla and some espresso bean aromas. Still a bit tannic, but with the rare chops that didn't bother me. Probably another 3-4 years would do it some good, but if you're not tanninphobic ok now. Another B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I repeat, Dale is not as easy a grader as he thinks he is. You hit the nail on the head for the Fleur, and were even a bit stingy with the Selbach IMO.
