SacBee: Dunne on ShakeRidgeVnyd

A rather nice article by MikeDunne (one of my favorite writers) in this week's SacBee on AnnKraemer's ShakeRidgeVnyd in AmadorCnty:
SacBee:ShakeRidge

I've taken that same wild ride thru the vnyd on her all-terrain vehicle that Mike describes.

We all known that "wine is made in the vnyd". Don't we?? We've been told that time & time again.
Well Ann says: “It’s not all about the vineyard,” she says abruptly. “It’s so not. It’s a lot about the winemaker. I just try to give them good ingredients.” Gadzooks...can you believe that?? From one of Calif's premium viticulturists.
Anyway...nice to see Ann get some publicity.

Yes, finally someone articulates that it takes a winemaker to express the vision of what he/she sees in the fruit. And these days, with RO, ultrafiltration, spinning cones, and selective distillation of permeates, it is less about the vineyard than it is the winemaker. But many winemakers don't want to go that route, thankfully, unless no other choices exist to produce the qualities they hope to achieve.
