Dirler-Cadè (once Dirler, then someone must have married someone else) is a relatively new alsatian producer to me. I went there for the first time in august 2012 and I was impressed. By the way, being there is a hard experience. On their wine list you find about 70 different labels and they want you to taste as much as you can! In a mail they sent me to confirm the rendezvous they asked me to stay at least 90 minutes. Last year I tasted 41 wines, this year stopped at 37. This means that for every single grape they have several labels, with different RS, lieu-dits and Grand Cru. Mr. Dirler, a real gentleman, is really kind and full of details for every bottle he opens. Prices are from cheap to medium, nothing really expensive, not even for SGNs. Very good QPR on the whole line IMO.
This Pinot Gris comes from a lieu-dit just in front of the Bergholtz village, some kms south of Colmar, in the same hillside of Grand Cru Kessler. 54 g RS.
Light yellow, really clear and bright. A lot of smoke on the nose. It seems an empty Caol Ila glass sniffed the morning after. Some honey to add elegance. Hints of mela cotogna (english? quince?). Medium body, round, good fruit, something tropical, good balance between acidity and RS. Excellent finish with fumee notes. Very good. € 12 at the producer.
