Bosconia for my wife's 40th birthday

by Matt Richman » Thu Aug 01, 2013 2:37 am

1973 R. López de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva Viña Bosconia

Pretty, light bodied, delicate with flowery fruit and lots of acid. Probably not the best bottle around but still a very nice wine. Long tar finish wafts away like a ghost. Most of the fruit has faded, leaving this lacy, aging beauty that would have been better 10 years ago.

Never had the '73. The '70 was still purring along a few years ago.

The 70 is a much better wine. In fact I traded a bottle of 1970 for this bottle of 1973 so that I could have a birth year wine for my wife. I did give up some quality but we really enjoyed the novelty of it so I'm happy.

I've liked the 73 more than you did, but agree I got better end of swap!
Happy Birthday Kristin!

Thanks Dale! I'll pass that along. I'm thrilled about the swap so win-win.

I hope your wife doesn't read this.
Oh...the wine.
Never mind.
