WTN: 2001 Chateau Pichon Baron

by Diane (Long Island) » Sat Jun 08, 2013 11:04 pm

It was good to cook outdoors on this mild evening, after yesterday's heavy rains. With filet mignon, we drank the 2001 Pichon Baron. Just after opening, it hooked me with its classic nose of cedar and black cherry. In the mouth was a smokiness that framed the fruit and left with a lingering finish. A thinness on the palate caught my attention, but didn't detract, and still a superb and classic Pauilliac.

Thanks for the note Diane. I have 4 bottles of the 2000 Baron but have not opened any yet. They may need a bit more time than the 2001.

I agree with you regarding the 2000. I still have another 2001, which I would drink before drinking any of my 2000s.

Thanks for the note. The 1999 is no slouch either if you have any.

My '99s are long gone, but I enjoyed the PB from that year.
