Plastic Wine Corks

by Bill Spohn » Sun Apr 14, 2013 5:00 pm

I opened a 1994 St. Francis cab the other day and noted a plastic cork.

Anyone know the earliest commercial use of these in CA?

Hi Bill,
St Francis Winery of California was one of the first (“major producers”) to switch to plastic corks in the early 1990’s. In 1995 I believe they switch manufactures due to “stuck” synthetic corks.

Was it ok? Lots of wines died under those early plastic corks

This bottle was very decent and the cork didn't stick - lucky maybe.
