Question on Wine Preparation Method or Area?

Postby Alex JK » Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:32 pm

HI,
I have a question. I saw several wines, for example 'Hevron Heights Pardes Merlot' described as Pardes. Please forgive my ignorance.... I wasn't certain if this was a region /area.......... or if this was a preparation method.

Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex and welcome! I hope you'll post here often.

Regarding your question the answer is none of the options you mentioned. Pardes is just the name of the wine like Opus One, Screaming Eagle or La Mission Haut-Brion.

Best,

First... let me say Thanks.
Secondly let me say I feel a bit stupid....just a name. I've never heard this word, of course I certainly don't know every word. Does it have a meaning or a connotation?

I think about some of the wines I see in the store like The Middle Sister, Chateau Blah Blah Blah, Kendal Jackson. Most of the names are after a person, place or, like the examples you gave, conjure up some character for the wine.

Actually a former student of mine, who is working for an import company in China asked me. She's writing up marketing material. I was her English teacher and of course, I have never heard of this name.

Thanks Again!!

Pardes (פרדס) means orchard in Hebrew. No idea why the wine has that name.
