WTN: 2007 red Burgundy demanding patience

by Mark S » Thu Mar 07, 2013 10:06 pm

A recent thread seen elsewhere suggesting red Burgundy shutting down may not be so far fetched. I recently opened a Slyvain Pataille, Marsannay, Clos du Roy, 2007, and -- hades spades -- if the damn thing wasn't a different beast from one about 2 years ago. The earlier bottle was all lovely lush fruit with an almost feminine disposition. This recent bottle has firmed up to the point where the red fruit is crunchy and the minerals are out in force. This is a good bottle, better than low end but of course, not top tier, but I was surprised at it's new found structure which didn't seem to be there before. Burgundy likes confusing people.

Burgundy does like confusing people, growers and drinker alike. Time to drink the Burgs from 2009 while the others sleep a little longer.
