What do forumites think of Egly-Ouriet? I've only tried two and they seemed so different from each other that I would like to hear views from those who have tasted more from the producer.
The first I tried was Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru "Les Crayères" disgorged in July 2010. It was a massive, Selossesque, oaky wine; so rich and sweet that I couldn't believe it was a non-dosé. I found it interesting for about two sips, then I grew tired since it was a pushy wine instead of one that attracted me by not showing all its charms at once.
Then today I tried the Brut Tradition Grand Cru a 70% PN-30% Chardonnay blend disgorged in January 2012. This was also a big wine but still within the limits of richness that I can enjoy. It had really lovely appley aromas and much Pinosity and floral character. And unlike Selosse, which the BdN reminded me of, this one I felt did have minerality instead of just plain, boring, upfront fruit. I have no idea about the dosage on this one but it seems a drier and crisper style than the BdN and though rich, it is delightfully high in acidity and is actually quite moreish despite its size. I like it.
So do these sound like Egly-Ouriet? If so, which of their wines are "safe" for me to buy in the future if I don't like the over-sized style of the BdN?
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
