Kosher wine in France

Postby Allen S » Mon Oct 29, 2012 5:44 pm

Hi all, been a while since I've posted.

I will be in Paris in a few weeks, and I'm hoping to get some suggestions regarding kosher wines available there that are not in the US. Also, I'd appreciate any suggestions for wine shops, restaurants, etc.

Thanks,
Allen

Hi Allen,

Restaurants:

Paris - Telephone: (+33) 01 43 80 63 60 / 06 80 12 73 26 Transportation : Métro stations: Wagram/Monceau: The theme of this restaurant is all about pairing wine with food, they have both classic dishes as well as some "modern jewish cuisine" such as banana leaves shaped - gefilte fish with coconut milk... (no comment...).

Le Jaguar : 96, rue de Levis 17eme arr. Paris - Telephone : (+33) 01 46 22 51 50 Transportation : Métro Villiers

Rafael : 105, rue de Prony 17eme arr. Paris - Telephone : (+33) 01 44 40 05 88 Transportation : Métro Péreire

Le Chateaubriand : 125, rue de Tocqueville 17eme arr. Paris - Telephone : (+33) 01 47 63 96 90 Transportaion: Métro Villiers (the experts of foie gras)

Gaspard : 84, rue Lauriston 16eme arr. Paris - Telephone : (+33) 01 45 05 31 89 / 01 45 05 90 65 Transportation : Métro Boissière

La Fille du Boucher : 20 rue Cardinet 17eme arr. Paris - Telephone : (+33) 01 42 67 14 19 Transportation : Métro Wagram, Monceau

WINE:

Cave Elzevir - A selection of rare kosher Bordeaux. 16, rue Elzevir, 03eme arr. Paris - Telephone: (+33) 01 48 87 90 52 Transportation: Métro: Saint-Paul/Chemin Vert

Wines hard to get in the USA: Chateau Smith Haut-Lafitte, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, Chateau Giscours, Chateau Guiraud (Sauternes), Chateau Lafon Rochet, Aloxe Corton (Bourgogne)

La Boutique Adolphe (yes, the name...). I'm not sure there are still there though. 40 Rue Pierre Demours, 17eme arr. Paris - Telephone : (+33) 01 42 67 21 47 Transportation: Metro Pereire

Best,

GG

Not sure ow Gabriel could not mention Osmose - easily the best. Skip chateaubriad - overpriced and rude (maybe french folk get better treatment). Jaguer is good as is brasserie de belveder

Osmose - Was discussed here a while ago already. One of my worst restaurant experiences ever. That said, it was 5 or 6 years ago so I assume they have improved since they are still around. Chateaubriand is very pricey but the food is great, I never was treated badly but neither did I get really good service and btw, none of the above-mentioned restaurants stand out service-wise. Service is usually not their strong point over there in Paris whether you speak french or not... Brasserie du Belvedere, yes, I should have mentioned it, love the duck confit there but the choucroute au riesling is so-so:

La Brasserie Du Belvédère : 109, Avenue de Villiers 17eme arr. Paris - Telephone: (+33) 01 47 64 96 55 Transportation : Métro Pereire

OK, a few updates:

1) PLEASE SKIP Kavod - the food was horrible - http://www.123cacher.com/en/kosher_rest ... kavod.html. Went there with family and well, I am sorry they paid so much for my inedible lunch.

2) Try out a nice Moroccan/Oriental place called: Chez Francois - its info is blow. The couscous was awesome (I AM VERY picky), after a touch of salt. Its desserts were killer, and the meats were OK.

So that's where you've been hiding! Maybe give Christophe a ring and he can taste you on the 2011 wines from DRC Pomerol. Only a few hours away. 06 62 47 88 37

I'd avoid anyway any restaurant calling itself Kavod... Might be a Muslim place with Chalal Bet Yussuf certification...
