WTN: Field Stone Gewurztraminer '09

by John Treder » Fri Nov 09, 2012 11:18 pm

I got some very nice small petrale sole filets for supper tonight, and was browsing my overstuffed cellar and came across the '09 Gewurz.
Nice pale yellow color, pleasant mixed melon and spice aroma, much drier on the taste (good!) with plenty of Gewurz spice and a nice acidic floor. Tasted quite young! Actually a very typical Gewurz profile IMO.
The fish was great, and the wine was as good as the fish.

Thanks for the note. I try to serve American wines at Thanksgiving (unlike most other meals), I like Gewurz with turkey and have always had trouble finding a decent dry one from the US. Sounds like Field Stone continues to hit the mark.
And yes, there is always Zin too.

Try a Swan estate PN. Actually, Rod's Cuvee de Trois PN works very well, too, and is easier to come by if you're more than 20 minutes from the winery.
