Done - finally. Thanks to Gabriel for pointing me towards the Eden Winery Wild Red. The Wild Rose was OK, but the wild red is truly WILD! Boysenberry and blueberry notes wrapped in Bordeaux style wine notes - I would have sworn there was some Syrah in there! The Frere Robaire is tasting great now - try it again. The Ella Valley Pinot was a bit funky to start - but worth the waiting for it to blow off.

You're welcome anytime! The Wild Rose '10 is almost dead (to answer your question in your post: to the best of my knowledge none of these rose wines have ever seen oak in any way), so is the Netofa Rose '10. Netofa Rose '11 is killer.

Mystery solved! I didn't notice the vintage of the Flam you reviewed: 2010. In fact, I never saw the 2010 so I assumed the '11 was the first vintage. I'm not surprised the wine declined--it's certainly not a wine to leave around.
I heartily second your post about the Dalton viognier (my only disagreement being that I think it fully merits an A without the minus). How about an online petition to Dalton to resurrect it?

Sorry a little late on this one, it was a crazy week and I didn't have a chance to visit the forum once.

I opened a bottle of Recanati Petite Sirah - Zinfandel 2009 - it was spoiled. So I switched to Yarden Syrah 2005 - This bottle was great, it has been a long time since I had this and I am so happy I stocked up on so many of them. I wish I had even more left. Full bodied, the mouth was bursting with dark fruit, the tannins have calmed down and the wine is not showing the spiciness it had in the past. The finish on this wine was long and luxurious with notes of cocoa.

Elie, where did you see the 2011 - in the US? I think they are still on the 2010? I looked at a few sites and they seem to all say 2010, hence my question, the 2011 is all over Israel and even the UK.

The '11 arrived a couple of weeks ago. I guess the websites aren't updated often enough. VERY limited quantities, so get yours while you can. From what I hear, stores are lucky to get a case or 2--3 at most, and the cases are only 6 bottles.
When did the '10 arrive? I don't think it was around last summer--hence, my mistaken impression that '11 was the first vintage imported.

36 bucks! Damn, that ain't cheap! I wont complain though, it's good to see that not all Israeli wines are less expensive in the States. Trust me folks, it's not so easy to explain to american tourist why a Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon is more expensive in Israel than in NY...

Insane indeed! Not sure I understand that price or the Castel either. To me, I will stick with SB or unoaked Chard along with reds.

Skyview is on sale. 25% off. Still pricey but reasonable. I'm in love with this wine so I was happy to cough up. Rose is a whole new world that just opened up to me. No longer happy with just reds and whites at my shabbos table! I hope we'll see more quality roses introduced to the kosher world. I can't wait to try the Netofa, as I love their style!

Vignobles David Reserve A-*** I'm not big on french wines generally (in the kosher world you have to pay through the nose to have a chance of getting a decent bottle and even then it's hit or miss) but this wine is amazing, and the bargain-basement price makes it that much more enjoyable. Medium bodied, well-balanced, lots of good earthiness, ELEGANT

Interesting point, if that's how many kosher-only wine drinkers feel. Haven't had this particular wine, but as a non-kosher mainly drinker, I find it generally the opposite. With some good research and careful purchasing I generally feel that I can get better QPR with French wine than any other country on the planet. Likewise, Italy and Germany both export stellar wines at reasonable prices if you can research and find them--but also I'm sure there are few kosher examples here. I understand there is very little French kosher wine that reaches the larger global market, and most of that is targeted at the super-rich, not necessarily the discerning wine-drinkers.

Sad indeed, it is for this reason that wineries in Israel give us the best kosher options that have solid QPR, simply given the sheer number of options. There are many kosher wines in Israel that are super over priced, but there are also many solid options. Recanati, Galil, some Yarden in America, etc.

Seem to like the Petite Verdot version a little better yet nice table wine.
