What are your five favorite "desert island" drinks?

by Jeff B » Thu May 17, 2012 12:47 am

My piña colada thread got me to thinking about what five beverages I'd take to the famous "desert island".

Besides water, which I assume is a given, what are your five favorite drinks/beverages?

Specifying the drink is fine but you can't repeat the general beverage again (in other words, just listing five favorite wines is not allowed).

I would likely go with:

Coca-Cola
Champagne
Pina Colada
Mocha (Espresso-based)

Hmmm...I shall return to my fifth choice. Iced Tea perhaps?

I'll stop at water and wine. That is pretty much 99.999% of the beverages I consume.

Naturally I'd need water and wine...

But on a desert island with nothing in particular to do every day I might want a few cases of good Scotch as well.

And coffee or tea to get me going in the morning, gotta catch a fish or find a coconut, right?

On a DESSERT island I'd want vintage Port and some Sauternes...

Safe, tasty fresh water
Iced tea made with Red Rose tea from Canada
For a wine choice, either Sauvignon Blanc or Gruner Veltliner since I presume my island will be hot and tropical
Fresh squeezed orange juice
V-8, or better, a fresh organic version of that

Can we give broad generic categories?

In addition to water:

Wine
Coffee
Tea
Beer
Fruit juices

Oops, no room left for a wee dram of single malt!

Jeff's rules, but...It's not really a Desert Island question if you don't have to squirm a bit when you choose to have some things and leave all the rest behind, is it? Come on, COMMIT!

Just can't come up with this list. The only way I could survive on just 5 would be if two of them were "cocktails" and "wine". Aside from those, I'd list water, ginger beer, and coffee.

I probably should have reinforced that the "desert island" is figurative. And the water is already provided. :)

good coffee
orange juice
sparkling white wine (no sparkling shiraz)
margaritas

hmm choosing the last one is harder, I could live with the "provided" water and these. I guess either a single malt, Grand Marnier or a cognac for the cooler days.
