We tasted all three of the available 2010's and found them very pleasant, although I would trust myself more had we tasted them blind. We were leaving Castel and I mentioned that we were heading for Tzuba, Ruth turned up her nose so I asked her where we ought to go instead. She said, "Flam". I hadn't realized they were so near by but we called and they said to come. We knew of them by reputation before they went kosher so we were really excited. There was no one else there but they opened the tasting room for us and, while we were tasting, Golan showed up, followed by Israel. We had them to ourselves for the better part of an hour, we were really excited and it had to have biased our opinions. I was particularly interested in the rose, though, because I've had so little experience with good kosher pink wine, and also because of the novelty of it being cabernet franc. It was crisp and very tasty. The blanc struck me as a good sauvignon blanc, I didn't so much taste the chardonnay, and the Classico was a nice young red.

2011 Bravdo - Chardonnay

My note:

2011 Bravdo Chardonnay – Score: B+ to A-
This wine only had 30% oak influence, while the 2010 vintage had almost 50%, though oak still plays a nice role in rounding the mouth and adding in some characteristics to boot. The nose on this dark straw-colored wine, with a green tinge starts off with bright citrus, lemon, light toast, green notes, and crushed herbs. The mouth is round and full with green apple, light quince, good acidity, light oak influence that comes together nicely. The finish is toasty with hints of butterscotch, crazy tart pink grapefruit, green notes, and on the rise a nice dollop of lemon zest. Drink this till 2014.

I'm actually surprised by Dave's TN as we had a glass of it together 3 weeks ago and I recall that we got the same impression. Perhaps a bad bottle, I don't know it didn't taste spoiled but had a very strange taste, the kind I wouldn't expect in a Bravdo. The fruit had a sort of a medicine taste and the oak was absolutely unfelt. It's a very young bottle yes, but still this a slIghtly oaked Chardonnay so the youth shouldn't play a dominant role here. What I mean is that I don't really expect the other bottles to be different and personally although I would of course retaste it, I wouldn't get another bottle for myself. That being said, I gotta admit that it puts me in an awkward position to sell it...

Sweet rich Prunes,
Toffee, Dark Chocolate, Raisins in a kind way,
Almost to thick yet works.. Wildly rich nose... LOOOOONNGG finish and remember sweet including still very subtle tannin structure..

Very interesting .. a little out of my league of price yet would not ever turn down having a nice glass..

Right Dave, the bottle had been opened the night before but I can testify that it wasn't drinking any better when we opened it then. Anyway I was quite disappointed as I had presented the winery to the people I was with as a safe bet one... With that said, I've never encountered any other wine from Bravdo, neither before nor after that one, that wasn't good.
