Thanking your hosts

Postby Jenise » Fri Mar 16, 2012 9:32 pm

A few nights ago a friend has us over to dinner, as well as another good friend whose wife is currently out of town. The five of us went through almost eight bottles of wine (naughty naughty) and I note that the host and gentleman friend were sipping scotch on the rocks when we arrived. Dinner was a fresh spring salad followed by roast leg of lamb and some great vegetable sides.

The next morning, Anne received this email from the other gentleman, titled "Lamb":

Anne and Ron,

I think I should have had a little less lamb last night. After arriving home, I fell asleep on the couch with cat on lap. Woke up at 4 a.m. and went to bed. Now I'm up but feeling lethargic, cotton mouthed and I have very little ambition. Will keep this in mind next time I eat lamb. Thanks for dinner.

Dan

Delightful.

Do you have a recipe for that roast leg of salad?

Letterman asked Zevon if his condition had taught him anything about life and death. ''How much you're supposed to enjoy every sandwich,'' Zevon answered. (From a 2003 NYTimes article on Zevon by Jon Pareles.)

Gee, I wonder if she'll invite him back for dinner again sometime...?
Maybe he is one of those book-smart people with no common sense.

Oh yes, they're old and close friends. We all thought his letter most clever and amusing.

Ahhh. I missed the context of it. Yes, I can see how that would be funny. :)
