A thread can be several strands intertwined.A wine can be a blend of several grape varieties. An incense of eleven spices. Even a discussion can branch out in different regions of thought. The stronger the structure even if a weaker component is added ; the better the final product will be as a whole.
Have a good one; h

Hey Harry,

Just rolled through liqours galore. They have the 09 livni Pinot not along with some 09 Tanya wines as well. I picked up a 10 dalton ps and an 09 gilgal chard. There was a new wine I have not seen before from California, called Seloh. They make a red and white. I got e white which is moscato for the folks who like sweet wine.

The seloh moscato is in my top 3 for kosher moscato. Some stores here are sold out.

2000 Riva Vecia cabernet sauvignon (Venegazzu, Italy). The last bottle we opened showed this wine was past its peak; we'll see if that's the case ovrall.

Ella Valley merlot 06. Oak and tannins nicely intergrated with toasty toast on the red fruits.
Must be at its peak and anybody holding this wine should think about drinking up

Hi Harry, shavua tov,

Dave Raccah, I'm looking forward to read your TN on the Dalton PS '10!

Friday night and shabbat lunch:

Psagot, Shiraz 2009: Dark garnet toward royal purple, with plums, blackberries and smoked wood on both the nose and palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with nice tannins on the mid-palate that rise again along with notes of vanilla on the long and spicy-smoky finish. A concentrated wine with great extraction and some good acidity that should allow it to cellar well for a few years (my guess being 2015/16) although drinking very nicely now already. We finished the bottle for lunch and it was even a bit better. Well done.

Best,

GG

Friday Night - Four Gates Merlot 2007, just serve with any kind of beef and all will be well.
Shabbat Lunch - Tetley's Pub Ale, too light to handle the food, but can see the appeal should one need an afterwork beverage in a Yorkshire pub.

We enjoyed the 2001 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon in the magnum format. Very delicious and worth the wait!

Hi Harry,

Asif Chardonnay 2009 - Oryah's decision not to have the wine see oak is an interesting one. With the mask of oak lifted, the wine faces greater scrutiny, and Oryah was bold in allowing that to happen. The citrus on the nose is refreshing and carries over nicely onto the palate, with dominant notes of lime and grapefruit. On the long finish additional notes of pears come into play, and it seems that the seeds of the grapefruit are ground by the teeth on the way down, delivering some welcome bitterness, that goes well with its salinity. Although the fruit is nice it is not as pristine nor as focused as a Chablis. I wonder if oak would have provided an additional layer of flavors or would have distracted from the fruit. In all likelihood, both are true, but I'm glad he chose this course. 13.5% AbV.

Dalton Petite Sirah 2009 - David's announcement that he was going to have the new vintage, prompted me to open a bottle of the '09 for the second time. I love this wine, not because it is complex, in fact I consider this a nice everyday type of wine, but because of the way its basic components shine through. It is muscular without being aggressive, tannic without being bitter, fruity without being jammy, and acidic without being tart. Its a primal wine whose juicy fruit teams with its chewy tannins from skin and barrel and its full body to deliver an unadulterated treat. I would have done better pairing it with a big juicy burger or a steak, but I won't complain. 14% AbV. Its price right at about $23.

Best,

So sorry to not have had the chance to drink this wine which is long gone from the shelves in Israel (very limited production). I will of course taste the '10 soon and will report back then.

GHW Yarden Ortal Syrah '04 - rather powerful than elegant, massive deeply extracted fruit,
pepper, plums, a lot of healthy but not well integrated oak, hot and with a long aftertaste.
On a plateau or already behind it. Don't see how this will improve

All those not very positive comments influence me to open my last bottle soon regardless of the quite better impression I had only 2 months ago with this wine...

Could be a storage issue that I've not encountered. By the way, I've noticed that so far so good, I've never encountered a corked or prematurely over-the-hill bottle that I've bought and drunk in Israel. However this has happened to me twice in LA (both times with a Yiron, the Yiron '05 and Yiron Syrah '04).

Best,

The wine is fine but it is not getting better and will be around for another three or so years. More than that who knows.

The wine notes can be found here - sorry, the copying and pasting really does not work for me. If you wish not to read them, no biggie, just an FYI:

Thanks Dave, I think I'll like the '10 better anyway due to less oak (too much oak doesn't usually work well for me in a young wine) and presence of blue fruit according to your TN.

Hi Harry,
Tried the 2010 vignonoble David reserve. at first I was disappointed because I was expecting a big bold wine. But this is a brighter, lighter style of Rhone. Which I enjoyed very much. David hit the nail on the head on his blog.

2010 Recanati Cab

Perfectly aged in oak (6 months?) for a $12 varietal table wine.
had some body, reminds me of a time 8-9 years ago when this winery first bowed in the US market.

great QPR today, used to be $10 8 years ago. Something to consider for Seder for those who prefer their wines in the young side.
Big :)

Capcanes Peraj Ha'abib Flor de Primavera 2009 - not nearly as great as previous vintages, maybe its too young.

I had the Recanati Special Reserve 2007 - an excellent wine which was enjoyable both Friday night and Shabbos day. It did not need too much time to open up on Friday night and tasted pretty similar Shabbos day.

Hi Harry.
Friday night opened a Yarden Merlot Tel Phares 2005 - my type of Merlot with plenty of berries and chocolate at the end.
Shabbat lunch our last bottle of Carmel Kayoumi Shiraz 2007 - unbelievable color but slightly disappointing as it was not as smooth as previous bottles.
Last night we hosted Sheva Brachot for friends and served Galil Mt. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot - 2009 and 2010 - perfect table wines for 30 guests who are not wine drinkers (other than our friends).
