WTN: Three excellent QPR Cal. Reds

2009 Cameron Hughes Lot 247 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon consumed last nite was the nicest Hughes wine to date for me and was very identifiable as a Napa Cab. It joins the 2007 Baus Napa Merlot and 2009 Baus Napa Cabernet as excellent wine bargains and will join the Baus wines as everyday house reds. They are all very similar with good but approachable tannins, medium body and lots of black fruit. The Baus Cab. had a chocolate note that was very appealing also. The Merlot was no wimpy wine and reminded me more of a Cab. than a Merlot. All the wines cost from $12-$15 and worht every penny!

Assuming listed is accurate those are not big by Napa standards. Heck since 14% is supposedly a real line, the 13.9% is actually low these days.

I was really talking about the 14.5 & 14.6 bottles, but of course you're quite right, nothing unusual these days in those #'s. I'm a bit of a dinosaur though, having been weened on 12-13% Cabs that were in many instances more enjoyable to my tastes than the current monsters.
