Depends what you consider close by - Lakewood is probably around a half hour drive - I believe there is a store called Wine on the 9 which is supposed to be very good.

David,
There is alot of kosher wines in the area as there is a large orthodox community there.
court liquors is on west end court at the stop & shop . Also Monmouth wines on monmouth rd.has a large selection.
There is a large liquor store at the shopping center on rt 36 near Rt 35.that also has many kosher wines though the selection is not as good . Your not going to like the prices.

Hello Sam - thanks so much!

Are you saying all three are expensive? Are Lakewood prices any better?

Thanks,
David

David, I have found them to be expensive.
I'm not familiar with Lakewood.

Court Liquors has the best variety and prices. There is also Deal Food and Liquor. But Court is the best to go with

Sure the 62 degree weather we have is already too "cold" for me - forget about that. Further, if I ever lost my mind long enough to decide that the east coast is a fun place to live, it would be Manhattan my man, not Long Branch!!!

David - As a summer resident of the Jersey Shore area, I can tell you the pickings are slim around Long Branch. The Wegman's on Rt. 35 in Ocean has a large liquor store as mentioned above, and that's where I have been going, more for their beer selection than wines. The general situation is that most stores will have a limited selection and high prices, and heavily favor mevushal offerings and I have yet to find one worth detouring for. If you are headed to a hotel, may be worth shipping a mini-order there from one of the online purveyors. Another option to consider if flying into Newark is hitting Wine Library on your way down to the shore. Its a relatively short detour, and while WL is by no means a kosher wine superstore, the prices are great and they carry a decent selection of non-mevushal - my favorite from them used to be Ella Valley Syrah's at $19.99. Good luck!

If you're passing near Bayonne and if you have a friend at Royal Wines, maybe you can get something from their warehouse.

Wine on Nine located on RTe 9 is actually just North of Lakewood in Howell NJ. As a satisfied cusotmer I can attest that the selection, presentation and knowledge of staff is on par with the better retail kosher establishments in NY and prices are competitive... I would guess it is a 20 to 30 mminute drive from Longbranch and well worth the time for any wine afficianado

Thanks guys! Indeed I finally did go to Westgate and bought my wines from The Vineyard, which was right next door to the pizza place, where we bought some pies to go. Nice selection but the rpices were a tad high. They gave me a 10% deiscount and it was OK. The shop looks nice and the selection is nice. The store sells only kosher wine, of course, being in Lakewood. Also, they had the Amarolo from Alexander Winery, was not expecting to see it here so fast. Wine on the 9 was not possible, as the traffic was crazy, so the vineyard worked out quite nicely!

Thanks again guys!

Indeed many thanks to Harry for the westside advice. Harry - do you buy the wine there?
