Indeed the 2005 Gibourg Pommard was one of only two kosher Burgundy wines that attained scores of 90. Following though are my tasting notes for several others of interest.
Special care should be taken with regard to kosher Burgundy wines and oneshould note that quite a few of those being imported into the United States might best be categorized as "not all that admirable in quality". To add insult to injury some of those wines are going for prices that many would consider outrageous. Caveat emptor
most definitely applies here.
Henri Darnat, Puligny Montrachet, Champs Gains, Francois Labet Selection, 2004: Lightly burnished gold in color, medium-bodied, with vibrant acidity and abundant apple, peach and mineral notes on first attack, those yielding to notes of lemon curd and dried apricots all leading to a long and generous finish. Drink now. Score 88.
Henry Darnat, Batard Montrachet, Francois Labet Selection, 2004: Light gold in color, medium-bodied with generous minerality to highlight tangerine, peach, pineapple fruits. Fine balancing acidity makes the wine both complex and elegant. Drink now-2013. Score 90.
Perrin, Pommard Chanlain, Burgundy, 2002: A well-made Pommard, dark ruby towards garnet, medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a light earthy note to highlight red currant and blackberry fruits, those parting from mid-palate on to reveal hint of what at one moment seems to be mint, at another licorice, all leading to a long finish on which the tannins and fruits rise together. Drink now . Score 88.
Joseph Roty, Bourgogne Rouge, 2003: A well-done generic Burgundy red, revealing generous blackberry and cassis notes on a medium-bodied, gently tannic background. Shows good balance and texture and lingers nicely on the palate. Very nice one indeed. Drink now. Score 88.
Roux Pere & Fils, Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy, 2004: Simultaneously lush and lively, showing generous summer fruits, lemon curd and spices on a background that hints nicely of earthy minerals. Drink now-2014. Score 89.
