WTN: `04 Alkoomi Cabernet Sauvignon Frankland River, WA.
Not really a Bordeaux blend but others here are posting on 100% CS so go ahead I guess. I have to think this months Focus subject is rather vague and hope there are some true B-blends coming up soon?
Served by the glass at a local winebar, $9. I have always been a fan of Alkoomi and the cooler-climate wines produced here. (The Riesling is always a nice drink and can age somewhat).
100% CS, 14% alc. The nose showed cherry and hints of redcurrant jelly, also some sweaty horse leather. Very nice mouthfeel entry, long finish of blackberries and ripe cherry.
Soft tannins, perfect balance here, no heat. I expected a nice glass...delivered! Think I will buy the `06 CS but am warned the Cab/Merlot might not be too great.
