2006 Knapp, Estate Grown, Cayuga Lake, Vignoles ($9.99 U.S. Bremer’s, Utica, NY). Alcohol level: 11%. For those of you who are not familiar with this one it is a cross between Pinot de Corton and Subereux; which probably tells you less. Can’t find the exact R.S. on it, but Knapp pegs it a little more than halfway between Dry and Sweet; it is definitely Semi-Sweet.
The wine gives a rush of tropical fruit upfront and on the tongue tip. There is much more in the middle along with a delightful honeyed complexity, and the finish lingers.
We did not match it with Asian food or dessert as recommended on the label, but enjoyed it with roast boneless pork loin with a sweet glaze, pilaf, gravy, and peas. Another nice Monday night.
