Housekeeping: How-to/FAQ and Practice forums to close

by Robin Garr » Thu Jul 06, 2006 11:39 am

Now that we've been open for several months and traffic in both the <b>FAQ: how to use the forum</b> and the <b>Practice makes perfect</b> forums has dwindled, I'm planning to remove those forums in the immediate future just to keep things tidy.

Please be assured that this move is only for housekeeping. Anyone who ever has tech questions about how to use the forum may continue to ask them in any of the forum sections; and anyone who feels a need to practice should feel free to start a practice thread (perhaps in the Basement would be best) at any time.

Dearly Beloved,

We are gathered here to pay tribute at this time to our fallen fora, FAQ: how to use the forum and Practice makes perfect.

They have served us nobly and honorably. Blessed are their bits.

Though many a forum have fallen before 'em, these were formidable fora who forsook few and forgave all.

Perl, Python, what are these compared to PHP? ...

[skipping ahead to page 22]

And so...

[skipping ahead to page 59, near the bottom]

Drink up, little geeks! Now that you know how to and have practiced!

Amen.

Will there be a wake? You know how much Faq and Prac liked to drink; it's the least we can do.
cheers,

Let's put it this way: I think we can assume that some wine will be consumed and talked about in the forum. Whether this phenomenon is directly related to the imminent demise of Faq and Prac doesn't really matter much in the overall scheme of things.

How sharper than a serpent's tooth is an ungrateful janitor!

Of course it matters. We should all raise a glass to Faq and Prac. It's the very least -- perhaps, even, the very most, as well -- that we can do.

Jeff, I really appreciate your requiem. Faq and Prac were both a bit hesitant, shy even, but I for one enjoyed their company. I know that with them gone, I'll be forced to practice ill conceived ideas in the main fora.

I'll remember your words from time to time in the confusing days ahead.

My thanks. Bob
