WTN: Torres "Atrium" Merlot 2003

Penedes.

Very dark in the glass.

Light chocolate on the nose.

Smooth and silky in the mouth, creamy black cherry fruit, spicy, tarry, showing some heat toward the end.

Juicy, black cherry fruit on the finish.

The heat--alcohol related? Didn't realize, btw, that Torres made a merlot. Naivete on my part: they're big enough to make at least one of everything.

I am assuming it is alcohol related. Finding this unpleasant burn more and more often in wines. It seems more common to find 14 and even 15 per cent alchol wines.
