I had a relative who had scads of delicate china things everywhere in her house. When we were kids we were afraid to breathe in some of the rooms for fear of knocking something over.

I've avoided them ever since!

And then as you say.... dusting? Um, I do it about once every month whether the house needs it or not!

She's talking about serving pieces. Holy crap! $800 for a friggin' platter? I don't think so....

Yeah, they are pricey.

The notice on the front page cracked me up.... "Free Shipping on Orders Over $100." Um, from the little I looked at, there is nothing less than about $150 or so.

I have only a single serving plate. It is elegant and very well executed. It was a gift from a very generous friend with great taste. I can understand wanting a collection. It would make a very easy gift tradition for future special occasions and before you know it, she will say "Enough".

Ditto! And it was my job to dust the few my mother had. I vowed then and there that when I grew up I would only have "big things, three or four of 'em max." And it has come to pass. I feel the same way about dishes that are too expensive or precious emotionally to risk breaking or putting in the dishwasher. They end up owning me vs. the other way around, so the fewer the better.

I've get an inherited set of circa '50 platinum rimmed china that gets used about once a year, and I could really use that space for something else....
