Read Blithe Tomato by Mike Madison. He farms his land in the Winters, CA area, producing beautiful cut flowers. He has branched out to olive trees and a few other assorted products. He is a great story teller, people watcher and offers thought-provoking observations in a whimsical and intelligent way. The stories are short and full of character....a great read just before going to sleep or on a lazy summer day by the pool.

I believe he's also the brother of cookbook writer Deborah Madison. He shows up at the farmers' market in Davis at times.
