Which Gewurztraminer style for Thanksgiving?

Trimbach, Gunderloch, Churchill & Claiborne.

I love the Trimbach, but fear it may be to much for some, and possibly to much for the turkey. The Gunderloch is less in your face, a bit minerally, with decent acidity, but I'm not sure how it will match the meal.. The Churchill & Claiborne is the mildest and has worked ok in the past, but I want to stretch my family some in their wine-drinking habits.

Of course, I know that nobody in the group has strong opions on anything like this.

You could mix them all together and have Global Gewurztraminer Punch, Doug. :)

Why not have two? The contrast of the Trimbach with the Gunderloch would be fascinating, and you'd have a stylistic choice to work with.

Or if only one, go with the Gunderloch. It will be kinder to the amazing variety of flavors you'll have on the plate than the Trimbach.

Assuming you're talking the basic Trimbach (yellow label), it is pretty mild compared to Z-H or Domaines Schlumberger. I have used the Trimbach on the Thanksgiving table, but I prefer the Domaine Weinbach Reserve Personnelle (a better entry-level Gewurzt IMHO).

Churchill & Claiborne....absolutely.

A dry white that has the nose of a sweet wine.

Perfect :)

Thanks all. Bucko, sounds like I'll have to look for the Weinbach for sharing and the Z-H for myself! It will probably take some searching as many of the shops on my side of town stick to the basics when it comes to Germany and Alsace.

Unless I find the Weibach today (or even if) I'll probably go with the Gunderloch for white and the 01 St Innocent Shea Pinot Noir for red.

You certainly can't go wrong with those choices.

Well, I'd like to tell you about the 01 St Inno, but it was a 2000. I'm not sure why I though I had a 2001 - it might be because I had the 03 listed as an 01 until I re-inventoried a couple of weeks back.

As for the 2000 (haven't you posted on this one, Jenise?): Earthy black cherries and flowers, red and black berry fruit in the mouth with a hint of oak spice. First time I've noticed oak in a Pinot Noir, but it's just a hint and adds to the complexity of the wine. Mild tannins and halanced acidty lead to a long, clean finish. Best Pinot match with turkey I've had. Even my non-wine drinking brother was impressed.
