Okay, gang. You saw my question below. I found the following three brands in a local supermarket--all approximately the same price. Which one would you pick? I'll purchase the winner.

Ball Park
Hebrew National
Nathan's

Me, three (same order). I also buy the kosher hot dogs at Gordon Food Service, if you have GFS stores in Albuquerque, Larry. They're really good, but larger (I think they're 5 to a pound) and come in 5 pound pack, but if you're cooking for a crowd....

Cheers
Niki

PS We were in NM in Mar and had the best green chile hamburger I've ever tasted at the Bobcat Bite outside Santa Fe.

Me four.

Actually, I've not had Nathans but I do prefer Hebrew National to anything else I've ever had. Wish they weren't so salty, though that seems to be par for the course with Jewish products/food. Since they use salt as a purifier, does saltier food taste purer or something?

I think I saw a low-salt variety.

And you didn't give me a ring!

Supposedly the best green chile hamburger is at the Buckhorn Bar in San Antonio, NM. People in the know say it's even better than the famous Owl Cafe in the same village. The one time I was there to try it was on a Sunday--and they were closed. Bummer.

In a 2005 issue, the high brow fashion magazine, GQ, formerly Gentlemen's Quarterly, called the Buckhorn Burger the seventh best in the nation. "It's the ultimate burger with a burn," said author Alan Richman in an article entitled "The 20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die."

"No burger has bigger flavor than the legendary New Mexico green-chili cheeseburger," Richman wrote. "Basically, it's too much of everything on a bun: ground beef, green chilies, mustard, tomato, lettuce, chopped onion and pickle. Such a combination makes no culinary sense, but at Buckhorn, which makes the best green-chili cheeseburgers in a town devoted to little else, the result is spectacularly tasty and eminently coherent."

One lone vote for Nathans.

Hey, maybe a hot dog tasting to come? Nathans vs Hebrew Nat'l?

One factor to consider, Nathan's has more sodium that Hebrew National:

Nathan's http://www.dietfacts.com/html/nutrition ... -19724.htm

Hebrew National http://www.hebrewnational.com/pages/pro ... franks.jsp

Hebrew National has less fat, less Cholesterol, still tastes better to me -- easy choice.

Hebrew National is #1 and don't forget the sauerkraut and mustard....chilli is a close second

Although, around here, folks put mustard, relish and jalepenos on hot dogs.

Thanks to this poll, I bought Hebrew National dogs, which were a tasty success at our party last night. I also noticed they really didn't shrink.

Hebrew National for me too. I buy the 97% fat free for me.....very good.
I like them with grill marks or sometimes I simply steam them. Somtimes with ketchup and mustard or saurkraut and Gulden's mustard.

For Kosher food, salt is used to somehow make sure there is absolutely no blood left in the meat. Have to check to see how that works but that's the theory I've always been told.
