Bill, one extremely easy and good alternative I often use is as simple as this: Chop fresh dill. Stir it into plain yogurt to taste. Dollop on salmon.
When I want to yup it up just a bit, I might whisk a little olive oil and a dash of lemon juice into the yogurt, dose it with salt and pepper or a homeopathic shot of Sriracha or Cholula chile sauce; maybe add a whiff of garlic by smashing a garlic clove and rubbing it all over the bowl before I put the yogurt in.
But the short story is that yogurt and chopped fresh dill make a great combination with salmon, whether you add other flavorings or not.
