On a brief trip to the back end of France last week we drove into Spain along the Cerbere/ Portbou coast road and had dinner at the Hotel Duran in Figueres in the same dining room where Salvador Dali had his dinners, and lunches. No cucumbers. The walls are full of Dali mementos..... when he ate there he used to scribble drawings on the table and give them to the hotel. The waiter also told us that sometimes after-dinner entertainment was arranged upstairs by the Duran family... I was not offered that option.
We just had the usual pan amb tomate, a merluza for my wife and grilled tuna rare for me, followed by a rather wet creme brulee. Dinner was fine.... made up for the lousy weather.
