We will be up in the Galilee this weekend, staying in Rosh Pina. Would appreciate any culinary do's and don't's while we're up there.

Mark, Hi....

Dining in Rosh Pina: Amburger - in the new shopping center, not far from the main road entrance to Rosh Pina. Terrible shopping center and a hypercasual restaurant but excellent burgers, entrecote steaks and simple but well made seafood dishes. A fun atmosphere. The place where all of the Galilee and Golan winemakers go to unwind. Not expensive.

A bit of a drive but worth it to visit and dine atBeit Rona - on Moshav Kerem Ben Zimra. (053) 805349. Open daily 12:00-23:00. Advance reservations required. Countrified dining with an exquisite view. First courses of lamb, veal and leek meatballs, goose breast with plums, sweet pepper tarts. Best main courses include lamb osso buco and veal chops. Tasty desserts. Moderate. **

If a visit is in order to the Golan either to visit the wineries or just for the pleasure of the scenery: MeatShos - In the industrial area of Katzrin, Ramat ha Golan. (04) 696-3334. Open daily 12:00-24:00. Simple but delicious, with fine opening salads and beef and lamb specialties, the best of which may be the T-bone and entrecote steaks and the grilled lamb chops. The restaurant serves only kosher products but has no kashrut certificate because it is open on the Shabbat. Moderate. **

And, with good tapas now added to the regular menu: Nechalim - Gan HaTzafon Shopping Center, Hurshat Tal Road, Kiryat Shmona. (04) 690-4875. Sun-Fri 12:00-17:00 and 18:00-23:00 and Sat 12:00-23:00. Good antipasti, calamari in ginger-soya sauce, mussels in wine sauce and entrecote in pepper sauce. Moderate. **

If traveling with youngsters (heck, even adults enjoy it): Chavat Bat Ya’ar Mitspe Amuka. (04) 692-1788. Daily 11:00- 23:00. A rustic steakhouse on a horse ranch in the Galilee hills. Best bets are American cut steaks (T-bone, sirloin and rib steaks), and hamburgers. Excellent to visit with children. Moderate. ** One hint though - if when you pull in there are busloads of tourists, just enjoy the view and the horses but skip the restaurant.

En route home, if desired and depending on the route you choose to drive:

Diana Paul VI St., Nazereth. (04) 657-2919. Daily 12:00-24:00. Attractive without pretext, with a warm atmosphere and genuine Middle-Eastern cookery. Tabbouleh, humous, fatouche (bread salad), kebabs, shishliks and shrimps in garlic-butter sauce. Reasonable to Moderate. ***

Elbabor on the Wadi Ara Road at the Ein Ibrahim Junction. (04) 611-0691. Daily 09:00-24:00. A warm greeting and an attractive dining area. Excellent meze, kubbeh filled with beef and pine nuts, roast mutton, siniyah (baked ground meat and tchina). Reasonable. *

As to visiting wineries - many large and small in the area that will receive you nicely!!!

Thanks! I saw your review of the place in Ramot Naftali and made a reservation there. I hope your recommendation still stands.

Mark, Hi...

The recommendation stands, even with enthusiasm for I was there again just last week and was delighted. Also worth keeping in mind that there are several wineries there that can be visited.
