Some interesting stats in the Wine Spectator's recent pinot article, stated in terms of how many acres are planted to pinot vs. total acres of vineyards:

Burgundy 26,000 out of 66,300
Champagne 31,300 out of 81,200
New Zealand 3,200 out of 17,800
California 24,000 out of 440,300
Oregon 7,500 out of 13,700

Too bad they didn't break California down, the areas are so disparate and California so large that it's a bit ridiculous to look at statewide totals.
