Reminder! Prefixing Tasting Notes

If I read correctly in previous posts, tasting notes should be prefixed with "WTN:" in order to be found in "Search". I've gone back and changed all mine. Perhaps others might spend a minute or two and do likewise. Just a thought.

Moderators - please correct/delete if I'm arse up on this one.

I thought the problem - do correct me if I misunderstood / read too hastily - was that two spaces aren't enough to be found on the search, so if I put TNs: it is enough? Or is this not enough putting it in the plural?

Don't know, Otto. Someone more literate in such matters may be able to help here. Sounds logical, though. If everyone just sticks to WTN would be my call on this matter.

We would like people to use WTN.

Ok. I'll adhere to that from now on. And I must go back to the threads to see what the problem was. I came away with the feeling that there was no real need for any change.....

I thought the current situation was that the tasting note and recipe archiving software only recognized "TN:" and "RC:" at the start of the subject line.

I know for sure that the new forum software's "search" function can only find strings three characters or longer (i.e., it can't find "TN" or "RC"--the colon is considered punctuation and doesn't count).

The proposal was that we continue to use "TN:" and "RC:" in subject lines, then use "WTN" and "RCP" in the body text of the posting.

We need an official ruling from the moderators.

This moderator is clueless. :) I think Bob Ross and Bill B are the point people on the broad effort to conform all of the various forums' tasting reports in a consistent way, and I'll defer to them.

As David B has so rightly pointed out, people, for the most part, will not bother adding WTN to the body of a note. This was proven in our attempt to get people to add TN to the body of a note over on Netscape. Resistance was decidedly not futile..Resistance was commonplace..

People are much more likely to use WTN in the title and I agree with David's recommendation to use WTN instead of TN in the title.

Yes, the WLP database (not this forum but the WLP database) does require TN instead of WTN. Right now, posts are brought over to WLP database by hand. Doing a quick edit on the title will make things a bit slower for transfer. So it comes down to is time going to be spent editing most TN's here so the WLDG search engine will work correctly or editing notes as they are being transferred by hand to WLP.
