WTN: A Calif White & A Red....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Apr 16, 2024 12:42 pm

Tried these two wines over the last two days:
1. Arnot-Roberts Falanghina RRV (13.5%; 5 brls) Arnot-Roberts/Healdsburg 2022: Light gold color; slightly pungent/resinous (no VM) rather herbal/waxy/parafin rather savory slight floral/marigolds bit earthy slight orangey rather strange nose w/ little high-toned fruit; fairly tart/tangy some herbal/resinous/parafin/pungent bit marigolds/pungent some Southern Italy white/rustic slight orangey quite savory/saline flavor; very long saline finish that mimics flavor; a very unusual rather rustic white w/ a lot of Southern Italianate character; quite a unique savory white that speaks more of Italy than Calif; works well w/ the A-R winemaking style. $30.00

2. Cin Quin Syrah Sta.RitaHills (14.5%; www.LaBargeWinery.com) LaBargeVnyds/Lompoc 2018: Very dark color; very strong blackberry/Syrah bit ripe/boysenberry some toasty/Fr.oak some peppery/c-c slight Rhonish rather attractive nose; fairly tart/tangy strong blackberry/blueberry/Syrah bit c-c/peppery some toasty/Fr.oak bit rough/rustic/structured flavor w/ light rough tannins; fairly tart long finish w/ some tangy tannins; a sound/solid SBC Syrah about the level of the Jaffurs SBC Syrah but not distinctly SRH; a bit on the rough/rustic side but fairly interesting. $32.00 (KK)

More gizzardflop from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. The A-R Falanghina is a very strange/unusual white. It doesn't have the bright Calif floral character I was expecting. Most Italian Falanghinas border on the lean/bland style. This one did not....it was packed w/ flavor & aromas. At first, I didn't care much for it but it sorta grew on me. I began to really like it for its unusual/saline/savory character. Pretty interesting stuff.
The CinQuin is a new label that showed up last week at Kokoman's. One that I'd never heard of before. The operaion is entirely managed by Pierre LaBarge IV. Who he??

Nope. I would say they're not in the same league as Dan.
