WTN: Four O'er The Weekend...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Apr 02, 2024 3:11 pm

Susan & I tried this weekend these four wines:
1. Manni Nossing Muller-Thurgau Sass Rigas DOC: Sudtirol Eisacktaler/AltoAdige/Valle Isarco (12.5%; KermitLynch/Berkeley) Manni Nossing/Bressauone/Brixen 2019:Med.dark gold color; lightly floral/marigolds/pungent some earthy/loamy/dusty bit coarse slightly herbal/SB-like pleasant/interesting nose; lightly tart/bit metallic/tangy slightly floral/marigolds/zinnias/pungent rather earthy/loamy/bit coarse flavor; med.long finish mimics flavor; reminds a lot of a Sudstiermark SB; lacks the high-toned character of a R; a modestly interesting white but does not excite much. $23.00 (KK)/$28.00

2. FossilPoint Grenache Rose SLOCnty (13.0%; http://www.FossilWine.com) FossilPointWines/ArroyoGrande 2023: Pale copper/salmon color; fairly fragrant strawberry/Grenache bit saline/earthy/dusty rather low-key/restrained somewhat pleasant nose; quite tart/tangy/slight metallic rather earthy/saline/limestone/mineral rather light/low-key/restrained floral/strawberry bit metallic flavor; short rather stony/saline/austere finish that follows flavor; a pleasant enough BdN but rather on the subdued/saline side; would like more effusive fruit to it; a rather stern/quiet rose. $16.00 (KK)

3. Bedrock Ode to Lulu Calif Rose Wine (13.5%; Mourv/Grenache/Syrah; w-c pressed) Sonoma 2023: Fairly dark salmon color; quite fragrant very floral/gardenias/strawberry/bit spicy some rich slight herbal/earthy quite attractive nose; rather tart/tangy fairly rich strong very spicy/floral/gardenias/strawberry slight earthy/dusty bit savory flavor w/ light tannins; long savory/saline finish that mirrors flavor; a quite pleasant/attractive rose w/ lots of spiciness; another Ode to Lulu winner. $24.00

4. Kaltern Serenade Moscato Gialla Passito Dd'OC: Sudtirol-AltoAdige (11.5%; http://www.KellereiKaltern.com; Enotec Imprts/Denver) Caldaro 2012: Deep golden/burnished bronze/bit browning color; very intense passito/grapey/very honeyed/orangey very perfumed bit graham cracker beautiful/complex nose; soft bit alcoholic very sweet very intense grapey/passito/honeyed/orangey/honey grahams slight earthy very complex beautiful flavor; very log/lingering very honeyed/orangey finish that mimics flavor; a beautiful example of a mature passito; should go another 10 yrs or more. $38.00/hlf

More stocklebrit from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Kaltern: This dessert wine I tried at a tasting almost 10 yrs ago & really liked. So bought a btl to see where it would go. It went to a very good place. One of the best mature passitos I can recall. Did not pick up any Moscato character in it at all.

Thanks for the Lulu check-in. Not that I am at all surprised. I had a 2021 the other week that was on fire!
