WTN: Four O'er The Weekend....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Jan 07, 2024 5:21 pm

Susan & I tried these 4 over the weekend:
1. Meinklang Burgenland White Osterreich (11%; 50% Gruner/40% Welschriesling/10% Muscat; ZevRovineSlctns/Brooklyn) Michlits Werner/Pamhagen 2022: Light gold color w/ lots of bubbles that don't dissapate; rather pretty GV/floral/carnations/slight white pepper slight muscatty pleasant/simple nose; soft off-dry bit frizzante light floral/GV/carnations rather simple/dull near vapid flavor; med.short soft off-dry some frizzante finish that mimics flavor; a dull as dishwater expression of GV and overpriced at $19.00 (KK)
______________
2. Barbacon Jazpemi DOCG: Valtellina Superiore Valgella (13.5%; Scuola di Vino/DalyCity/CA) Angelo Sega e Figli/SanGiacomo di Teglio 2019: Med.color; strong fairly tarry/Nebb/pungent/road tar/licorice bit toasty/oak very slight floral/Nebb/lilacs some complex rather deep classic Valtelline Nebb nose; lightly tart fairly rich/lush strong pungent/licorice/tarry bit toasty/oak very light loral/Nebb some complex flavor w/ modest smooth/ripe tannins; very long lightly tart strong road tar/pungent finish that mirrors flavor; a somewhat coarse/rough/rustic expression of Valtelline Nebb but not worth the price. $46.00 (KK)
______________
3. Weingut Brundlmayer GrunerVeltliner Kamptal Terrassen (12.5%; http://www.Brundlmayer.At; Skurnik Wines/NY) Weingut Brundlmayer/Langenlois/Kamptal 2022: Med.gold color; strong very white-pepper/GV/floral/gardenias light stony/chalky very attractive/perfumed nose; rather tart/tangy fairly rich/lush very strong GV/floral/gardenias rather w-p/GV light mineral/chalky slight tangy/metallic lovely classic Wachau GV flavor; very long/lingering finish that mirrors flavor; needs 2-6 yrs of age; a lovely fairly intense GV but a bit pricey at $18.50/hlf (KK)
______________
4. Carne Mercato VinoRosso (13%; UvaImprts/Atlanta; 50% Montepulciano/40% Corvino/10% Merlot) Mercato/Peschiera del Garda/Veneto 2020: Dark color; rather grapey/plummy/black cherry some earthy/loamy slightly interesting nose; soft bit off-dry strong grapey/plummy/black cherry/slight licorice somewhat earthy/loamy/bit mushroomy little structure/somewhat soupy somewhat simple/dull flavor; med.short finish mimics flavor; a rather grapey/dull/soupy/simple Italian red that resembles a Lodi red more than anything; no bargin at $17.00 (SFW&S)

More diddlespurt from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Barbacon: I had the Sol version of this wine several weeks ago & liked it quite a lot. This Jazpemi is a slightly more expensive (by $7) version of that wine. I somewhat preferred the Sol because of its much stronger floral/fragrant character. This Jazpemi is a bit richer & more intense tarry & less acidic/angular than the Sol. But both are very good expression of Valtelline Nebb. They are both natural wines but show no signs of natty/funky character.

2. This Gruner showed up at Kokomans but only in the hlf-btl format, but I wanted to try it. Maybe slightly on the pricey side but a lovely exression of Kamptal Gruner.

Unfortunate pricing on that Brundlmayer. A full bottle locally is only $24.
